Why should you keep a sketch book?

A sketchbook is a repository of your ideas, tastes preferences and observations; it is a direct line that connects your life experiences and observations to the process of art creation, infusing your art with genuine feelings   providing an invaluable experience to create art that is unique and meaningful to YOU.

Keep it handy because you will need to have quick access to it for when ideas strike.

How to use a sketchbook:

·         DRAW anything that crosses your mind, it doesn’t have to be a perfect drawing, draw from nature, from TV, books, memory, etc

·         Have it beside on your night table for when you have a dream and want to remember it for later use

·         Experiment with shapes, lines, and textures

·         Experiment with different compositional ideas before committing to a final one

·         Experiment with different colour palettes to find which one best communicate your idea

·         Experiment with different media and media combinations

·         Experiment with materials to see the way materials react together

·         Use it to record experiences that could be idea generating

·         Take notes for when you visit an art gallery and something like a technique or colour combination catches your eye

·         Glue images that interest you as subject matter

·         Glue colour swatches from magazines or paint colour chips

·         Experiment with different tools for mark making for example

·         Write poems, ideas stories, words
